Kind words

I have known and worked with Alison for years and she is a very talented photographer.  She has worked with us on events such as the ERR, coming every year and recording the spectacle. In addition, Alison has worked directly with our clients producing a detailed record of the construction, launch and subsequent use of the boat by the owners family. This record was turned into a coffee table book for the owner and his friends and is a wonderful remembrance of the joy and work involved in building a custom boat.

And finally, she has worked with me personally to restore and reproduce some old family photographs that were in very poor shape, but were able to be restored to provide an insight to a life gone by.

Working with her is always a pleasure.

Personable, smart, a passion for boats and water, great photography skills and an athlete, all in one. For more than 20 years I have interacted with Alison around our shared photography interests and our love for the outdoors. I have never seen her falter. We represent much of her excellent photography at Aurora Photos are are proud to call her a contributing photographer and friend.

When Michael and I started out on the daunting project of restoring the 1938 one-off Alden-design motor sailer Trade Wind, Rockport Marine was give the assignment of gutting her while we were out of  town. Alison Langley did a fantastic job of documenting that process so we felt as if we hadn't missed one bit of it (except swallowing the dust!).

She continued to surprise us with shots that nobody else could have gotten, because she was willing to go there late on a Sunday and move tools out of the way (and back) so that there were clean lines to be seen. And then the pre-launch, back into the shed for another winter and, finally, the real launch in May 2011. Alison and Jane, her assistant, went the extra mile every time, designing and having a book printed for each team member at Rockport Marine that showed off the work they had done, making a one-off book as a surprise gift for us after launching, and putting together the most spectacular short video ever made of Trade Wind for presentation at her new atelier (see "Restoration of Trade Wind" on YouTube). And finally, she and Jane helped us put together a show-off picture book to help sell her.

It was serendipity that Alison and Jane made their center of activity Camden, Maine. We could not be happier with the results of their photographic and graphic design work!

Alison has an amazing eye for the little details that tell a bigger story. She understands boats and the water and uses that knowledge to make stunning images. While boats are her specialty, Alison has also photographed houses for Maine Boats, Homes & Harbors Magazine and produced an amazing series of images of a 99-year-old Maine artist.

I could go on and on, but let’s cut the chase: Alison is simply a great photographer.
